Earlier this month we had a burst of record-breaking warm temperatures.  These temperatures brought many people outside to work on their yards, flowerbeds, gardens, etc.  Has anyone ever taken temperature data and had students find out when the most likely date for the last frost is?  How does a gardener know when they should plant?  This seems like a question we can use modeling and regression to answer.

It might also bring up some fun ideas about global warming, or the risk/reward of planting early.  It could also be used to introduce kids to plants that grow better in the cold or the ways plants have to protect themselves from the weather and then tied into a science or health lesson.
