I made the changes below to the original sorting activity in the May
session, Year 2. The file is posted in the Forum: Year 2 Activities section.

• The exponential growth function was revised to 2^(x-1) so that f(x)
  represents the number of grains of rice on the xth checkerboard square; this
  also forced a revision in the table and the graph. In the original version
  f(x-1) represented the number of grains on the xth square.
• The graph of the exponential decay function was changed to display the
  y-intercept.
• A set of four cards for f(x) ≥ 5 - x was added at the end. The
  situation for this (dimensions of all the rectangles that have a perimeter
  greater than or equal to 10) provides a comparison with the situation for
  f(x)=10/x (dimensions of all the rectangles that have an area of 10).
• Tthe "y" axis label on all the graphs were changed to f(x).

After the each function group gathered together, here are the questions they needed to answer:

What are the unit labels for each axis?

Compare the situational domain and range to the algebraic domain and range.

Which videos would you like to share Chris? The PD360 videos should stay behind the website password protection. The others could probably be shared in theory, but you can't direct link to them anyway. Note that anyone can join the site now so that may be easier. Algebra for All Year 2 Summer is up on MI-Streamnet. Here you can hear/watch the participant discourse and facilitator prompts/feedback while various activities from the summer sessions are in process.

I also would like to say that David did an excellent job on the resources available through MiVU for the program this year. He deserves a very big thank you for all of his hard work to make this program successful.

I thought the session on Friday, August 27th was a good one. I wish that we could have gotten into what is on the agenda for our second session of the year. I hope to have a very meaningful session with my group these next three upcoming days (Aug 30,31 and Sept. 1). I hope that I can encourage an even better usage of the resources available through A4A and will strongly encourage my group to add addtional activities to what is presenlty available.

Last year Val Mills had shared the attached two files about planning a lesson using the Thinking Through a Lesson Protocol (TTLP). Since we can't post the Mathematics Teacher article referenced in the Summer Session Day 2, I thought it would be helpful to post Val's summary of the TTLP and the template she created. I posted them in the Teacher's Corner section of the Forum.

The stacking cup activity sheet comes from an Illuminations lesson called Determining Functions Using Regression. The allExperiments.pdf file are the activity sheets that accompany this lesson. I believe page one comes from the allExperiments.pdf file because it was part of a pack of activities. If that's not correct please let me know.

Where is Cup activity PAGE 1 ? Only page 2 starting with question #3 is listed here. Thanks :)

ALSO, PLLLLLLLLLLLLLLEASE have Nicole sing the transformation kinesthetic activity or record students doing this - THAT was great !

Sorry about that. I think I have added the rest of the documents now. If you notice anything else that is missing please let me know. We can not post the TTLP article because the publisher's permissions do not allow us to do so. You will have to use the copy that you were given at the training.

There are several files that need to be posted: the TTLP article, the Common Core State Standards, the Stcking Cups activity sheet (both page 1 and page 2), and the Teaching Methods chart.
